[EN] The works of award-winning choreographer Russell Maliphant are captivating to watch and are richly informed by a unique collaboration with the lighting designer, Michael Hulls, and their distinctive approach to the relationship between movement, light and music.
The Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg introduces the Russell Maliphant Company with a programme featuring Maliphant's new creation, AfterLight, a full length work for three dancers
inspired by the photographs of Vaslav Nijinksy, and his geometric drawings, which includes the solo AfterLight Part 1 originally premiered as part of Sadler's Wells In the Spirit of Diaghilev and nominated for the 2009 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production.
The new creation will continue the working relationship developed on Part 1 with the animator Jan Urbanowski, and the dancer Daniel Proietto, who will be joined by the dancers Silvina Cortes and Camilla Spidsoe. The piece will feature music by Maliphant's long time-collaborator, composer Andy Cowton.
» Obsessive, revealing, true to Maliphant's manner and to Nijinsky's imagery.
Financial Times
» A miniature masterpiece. Daily Telegraph
» Maliphant is an artist devoted to the almost serene pursuit of emotion through abstraction.
Debra Caine, The Times
» A poet of the form Hulls not only re-casts the stage with his own extraordinary architectural patterns of light, but seemingly redefines the dancers' physical appearance.
Judith Mackrell, The Guardian
