#15 AUSTRALIAN DANCE THEATRE

Proximity

With 8 dancers

[EN] In this latest work by Australian Dance Theatre, Artistic Director Garry Stewart works with Paris-based video engineer Thomas Pachoud to create an astonishing dance and real-time video performance. Titled Proximity, the work sees eight phenomenal dancers train video cameras on each other to capture their ingenious physicality, which is then instantly manipulated and projected onto massive screens that span the stage. The minuscule becomes massive and the singular becomes multiple. The result is a stunning visual experience that seems to liberate the dancer's bodies from the audience's everyday understanding of physics, upending the very nature of perception itself and questioning our ideas of selfhood and identity. The innovative work of Stewart and Pachoud is enhanced by music from composer Huey Benjamin - a session drummer who has composed scores for the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Ballet Du Rhin - and lighting by Mark Pennington.

Stewart is globally renowned for his ingenious approach to dance, which frequently incorporates other mediums such as photography, robotics and architecture. He has been the artistic director of ADT for twelve years and has made the company the most innovative and most in demand in Australia.

» Brilliantly spectacular, Proximity makes you think, as the best festival performances should. The Australian

» This is one of the strongest works Stewart has shown here for some time, and one can only hope that he'll do more work with Pachoud. Dance Australia

Luxemburger Wort à propos de Be Your Self
