[EN] English director Douglas Rintoul returns to Luxembourg following his triumphs at the Capucins with Design for Living in 2008 and Closer in 2010. Invisible is a multi-narrative piece by Croatian playwright Tena Štivicic, who explores themes of identity, migration and globalisation via a series of disparate and desperate characters, played here by an international cast. Subtitled "a journey into a world in flux", Invisible is an innovative fusion of new writing, newmedia andmovement - it features choreography by Rintoul's collaborator Darren Johnston. It is a funny, moving and urgent play that asks how we define ourselves in an ever increasingly globalised world.
Born in Zagreb and now living in London, Štivicic has written plays both in her native Croatian and in English. Her major works in English include: Can't Escape Sundays, Perceval, Psssst, Two of Us, Goldoni Terminus, Fragile! and Fireflies. The latter were recorded and broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
A Transport production, Invisible is a follow up to Rintoul's acclaimed revival for that company - of which he is artistic director - of David Greig's Europe. As well as his work in Luxembourg, Rintoul has directed for the Barbican, Trafalgar Studios, Dundee Rep Theatre, National Theatre Studio, Salisbury Playhouse, The New Wolsey Theatre, Creation, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He was recently nominated by the Barbican and National Theatre Studio for an Arts Foundation fellowship.
Last season, during his preparation for Closer at the Théâtre des Capucins, Rintoul even took time out to host a series of free theatre workshops for local actors - both professional and amateur. His production of Patrick Marber's iconic play about sexual politics featured Luxembourg actors, Jules Werner and Myriam Muller, in the lead roles. It underlined once again the diversity of the genres and languages available in the programme of the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg.
